Man, I feel like there hasn't been enough love for Birdman on this site. Considering it's sort of one continuous scene, it's tough to really separate them, but the way Keaton handled his "last scene" near the end of the film was damned perfection. Batman can act. Really well. Who knew?

I watched it the other day and decided I didn't know whether it was "good" or not, but it was fun as shit to watch.

I totally agree. I see it in trailers all the time, and it always turns me off. It doesn't set up any conflict or reason to watch the film, and watching drugged up people while sober is uncomfortable enough in real life; I don't wanna have to sit through a movie full of it too. I seriously have no idea who it appeals

Sure, I'd say The Tree of Life would fit that bill. Though it's probably too vague for the modern Christian audience to get behind it. The problem is that the target audience for these types of films is so dumb that they need explicit messages that ridicule the other side in order to appreciate a film. And there's

Solely because it's Aronofsky, it came with a lot of unfairly high expectations.

Sorta. It's more like an hilariously tasteless montage of patriotic bullshit and shots intending to convince the viewer that America has always been really accepting of minorities. It's definitely worth a hate-watch.

Definitely the biggest disappointment of the year, for sure.

Even back when I was a Christian (up until around age 12 or so), I found the idea of a rapture so morally reprehensible and utterly terrifying that I could never understand why people were buying these Left Behind books. It continues to astound me that there are adults with less moral sense than my 11-year old self.

Oh, that's right. I remember some people turning up to defend the film and somehow ratcheting up like 30 guest votes for their insane, fundamentalist drivel. It was an odd time in AV Club history.

The fact that this SOB got off with probation for a serious felony continues to diminish my faith in the justice system. As if there was any left.

Spoiler: God wakes up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette and realizes the entire history of the world was just a dream.

It needed more nudity, that's for sure.

Wow, God's Not Dead got off unscathed? To be fair, you did include Left Behind and Saving Christmas, and maybe that was enough of the Christian market for a 20-film list. But Heaven is for Real, Son of God and Exodus: Gods and Kings deserve special mention here in the comments section. Maybe you could've just saved

I'm over 400 for what may be one of my worst posts ever on this site. And there are some doozies. I'm still filled with pride, nevertheless.

AimingforYoko on True Detective episode 6 wins my vote. That's how you execute the AV Club schtick.

Sticking to one genre seems to be a thing that is unique to music. I'm guilty of it, and I have no idea how any music critic could really be an objective observer. There's just something so naturally subjective about music that it prevents you from really judging it on an artistic level. I will gladly watch any genre

Indiewire does it that way, and they did fairly well with theirs. (Although interestingly enough, I haven't seen True Detective top the lists anywhere but there. I guess the time factor can play a huge effect.)

I'll put money down that this whole piece was written just so he could brag about that.

That guy needs to stop calling his mom all the time and start writing some more reviews.

And then a Macaulay Culkin biopic in four years. (Just wait….)
