I’ve always assumed that red delicious apples were not picked, but that they were just a pulp made from discarded remains of real apples stuffed in a dark red, very thin plastic.  They are the IKEA furniture of apples.

GOOD. Red Delicious are not delicious and are, in fact, mealy, bland trash. Give me a nice, crunchy, tart Macintosh any day instead.
