I think my feelings about the game would be pretty different if Batman’s skills and gadgets weren’t tied to story progression. Hiding the “true” ending behind 100% completing but preventing us from completing side objectives early in the game is one of the single worst game designs I’ve seen this gen.
I get him, though there’s that whole book-burning thing, and I also feel like he’s sparring with strawmen.
“That’s not enough! We need to cover all the problems of all the people in the world in that one game, otherwise we are very bad people. And that is A – impossible, B – Insane, C – bullshit. It took me years of stress, hard work and risks to be able to finally create a game I always wanted to make and I will do it the…
Welcome Matthew!
I spent quite a bit of time looking to find the information I’d read in the past on this and I can’t seem to find anything aside from a Videogamesblogger article (which doesn’t go too much into detail).
Trying to find him discussing his original plan has proven pretty difficult. I linked a pretty uninformative videogameblogger article in a different post here but all-in-all, finding him actually talking about the original AC plan has proven pretty tough to come by.
The only thing I’m finding is this write-up on videogameblogger, which is not very well sourced (or detailed!) as far as I can tell:
I just responded to someone else about this and I’m honestly going to have to go back to Google to see where I had read this. What Nolan North said yesterday wasn’t the first time I’d heard that.
It’s been awhile since I’ve researched this, but what Nolan North said yesterday about Desilets’ original vision wasn’t the first time I’d heard it.
In 2013 he sued Ubisoft for damages and claimed he had a clause in his contract which would allow him to retain the rights to the game.
Even Nolan North mentioned in that interview posted recently how he STILL gets chills when he thinks about Patrice Desilets original vision for Assassin’s Creed. As do I.
Except when the game won't let you call it which is ALL THE TIME.
It's in good hands. Druckmann and Straley are geniuses. I wouldn't worry at all.
Druckmann and Straley are writers too. For them to go all in, their vision needs to be realized.
Agreed.
How do you fire somebody when you no longer have a job?
I have a hard time with subtitles.
As a matter of fact I have spent time in a development studio. Not a long amount of time, admittedly. And yes, I was there to QA a game.
