How do you get dust in a sealed tube that’s under water?

Can we talk about this 3” cable that appears to come out of one port and then just connects 3 ports over? Nothing about the electronics says mil spec. Looks like stuff from Radio Shack and your local hobby store.

My guess is that it’s purpose is to gather acoustic information on Chinese navy submarines based at Hainan, and that it could be sent by anyone from Vietnam to the US. It doesn’t necessarily have to be of US origin, especially when you consider the tensions in the South China Sea over the Spratlys and Paracels.

I highly doubt that this electronic setup is the work of any country who would bother spying on China (US, Japan, etc). Looks far too haphazard and not multi-million-dollar enough. This picture alone suggests that the Chinese made it themselves.

Any of the internal weapons shown here have yet to be deployed and even the normal R-77 that is supposed to compete with our AIM-120 and has been on planes since the mid 90s as mockups has not once been seen in active…
