Yeah. Sadly, I don’t think NI will change any time in the near future.
Yeah. Sadly, I don’t think NI will change any time in the near future.
Well, here might be a clue as to why.
So proud to be Irish today. It’s been a long time coming but that was one hell of a resounding yes. The gay marriage result of 62% for yes in 2015 was a stunning victory; I still can’t believe yes to repealing the 8th came in higher at 66.4%. Everybody back home was blown away at the size of the yes vote when the…
They kinda didn’t. Priests and bishops were reguraly making statements and calling for a no vote. Some churches even brought in people from the No campaign to give talks during mass.
I’m over the water in the UK, but I’ve been following this with a vested interest in how it turns out. You see, my boyfriend is Irish (at least, by birth, but he’s lived here since he was six weeks old and yeah, he did put on the accent when he was trying to chat me up. Hey, it worked!) and he comes from a pretty…
So delighted and proud to see the women of Ireland reclaim their personal autonomy.
I read something where ‘no’ voters were complaining they’d been made to feel ashamed of it, they hid their opinion for fear of being judged. FFS, these people call the other side baby-murderers! If they still feel ashamed it’s because deep down they must know they’re in the wrong.
No contribution except: FUCK YEAH!!!
I know that I replied earlier but I don’t think it stuck. Anyways I think that we finally will give women a proper right to their own body. If we vote yes it will be amazing. If not I do t really want to imagine 😣
Think of it this way, it’s money that the No campaigners wasted on an audience they were never going to sway.
I went to a very liberal college in Dublin so most of my peers were ardent Yes supporters, but I have many family members living in the only constituency that voted against gay marriage in 2015 so I was very worried.
I was happy emotional, then I read a think piece by an Irish lady against the repeal. Basically she said it looks like 2/3 of the population will vote to repeal, but it’s not fair, they have U2, comedians, and the “good” politicians on their side.
c’moooooooon Irelaaaaaaaaaaaannddd you can doooooo thiiiiiiiiiissssss
Thank you. It is much appreciated - we couldn’t do this work without support from our local and global pro-choice community. The reproductive rights community spends so much energy fighting restrictions and heinous, archaic and disgusting legislation - it will be very wonderful to get a win. This means so much and…
Oh I know! They basically admitted their plan was to come here and try to illegally subvert democracy? Time and money to interfere with a foreign election? Fucking geniuses. Well done.
I love the part where CNN has them admitting to violating Irish Immigration and Customs law, also the part where they assume that their first amendment rights are exactly the same as if they were in America.
And also, it has just be amazing this week to see the older generation sticking up for reproductive rights. Auld fellas on the news talking about how badly women have been treated in this country and how it needs to change. The Irish rugby team coming out in support of Repeal. Grandparents for Repeal. I feel…
Should add....still worried we should be wary of this and all polls.
