My question has always been, why aren’t there better drugs being researched and developed to help the chronic pain population? Most of the folks that I talk to who suffer with chronic pain tell me that they don’t get relief with the drugs that are deemed appropriate. I think that I know the answer to my question.
I learned this in an advanced Pharmacology class. In a nutshell, neuro-wise : Pain from traumatic injures and surgical incisions comes from one place; pain that is chronic comes from another. Therefore, opiates are appropriate for the former, but not for the latter. People with metastatic disease fall under the former…
