Cursive in first grade? That does surprise me. My son is in second and they haven’t started cursive yet (Actually, I think there’s much less emphasis on that in general now because we don’t *write* on paper as much anymore). But I am surprised at how quickly the math is progressing.

That’s funny. In France, they don’t teach reading until kids are about 6-7. Same with Scandinavian countries. Japan doesn’t begin until first grade either — that same 6-7 years of age.
