Bah! I will never relinquish my Oxford comma. NEVER!

I remember hating them for sounding like Pearl Jam…because I hated Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam, Live, Collective Soul Assylum, etc.* All those bands that made the radio really terrible back then. I always associated them with the music my friends who went the "frat boy" route would put on because Nirvana and Jane's

[agree or disagree] I am surprised that this article does not mention the Maddox response to the post that this parodies.

I think the band's biggest problem is that this was their breakout album. Personally, I got turned onto them because they had a song on the "Pump Up The Volume" soundtrack that blew my mind. That had me seek out "Louder Than Love", and then the progression to "Badmotorfinger" and "Superunknown" made total sense. I

They're a little rough, but their STNG movie reviews are spot on as well, comparing "series Picard" to "movie Picard". And I love their "Star Trek" review bit, "I like my sci fi movies either really boring or really exciting." I think this might be my favorite Half in the Bag review that they did:

I love the lightsaber breakdown in "Menace", but the exchange between "Empire Yoda" and "Clones Yoda" in the "Clones" review, to me, is priceless. Where he has Yoda saying "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter [touches Luke's muscle]." followed by Yoda leapfrogging around Dooku…it completely sums up

"David Comes to Life" by Fucked Up is probably my favorite concept album. Probably the best album of the 21st Century thus far. I'm not sure if "The Fragile" by NIN was intended to be one, a former roommate and I convinced each other that it was. Also, "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" by Iron Maiden is an overlooked

People can change a lot in 20+ years. That doesn't change that I still love those X albums made way back then, regardless of whatever Exene, or anyone else in the band, may think/do today. Those first four albums are unquestionably fantastic.

I never knew SP did Storytellers! I must hunt that down now. I just remembered, I once went to a Megadeth record release party where the band played an acoustic set. Mustaine (pre-born again) said they had prepared an entire set for Mtv Unplugged, but then Mtv got back to them and said that they weren't "doing the

I'm surprised Alice in Chains didn't get a mention. I know opinions are split, but I think it's an amazing performance, and I like that half of the set was from their EPs and they even had a new song. Also, Billy Idol's performance from VH1 Story Tellers was downright inspiring: http://www.youtube.com/watc…

It's unfortunate, because most of the female indie singers I enjoy are from the 20th century (Kim Gordon, Kim Deal, Siouxsie, Exene, Björk, Nina Persson, Beth Gibbons whose wispy voice I like because there's strength behind it and from her it's authentic, etc.)

She has what I call the "generic indie female singer" voice. Put their voice side-by-side with 5 other singers who use that style, and you couldn't pick any one of them out of the line-up with that breathless airy quality, and singing things like "shtaahrs" instead of "stars".
I enjoy many female singers. Just not

"Asheton, along with brother Ron, Iggy Pop, and Dave Alexander, helped found The Stooges back in 1967. The band released three excellent records—1969’s The Stooges, 1970’s Fun House, and 1973’s Raw Power—before breaking up in 1974. The band reunited in 2003, putting out two records since

I really dug Henry Rollins' labels Infinite Zero and 21361. The later was mostly for his own stuff, and the former was mostly a re-issue label that he had with Rick Rubin that put out (at the time) out of print DEVO, Birthday Party, Alan Vega, and other great post-punk kind-of stuff. He even put out an

The movie hit me on so many levels when I first saw it. I didn't see Becky as much of a "sell out", but rather as simply taking her path which was a different one than her friend. I really identified with both characters.

Exactly. Once Ben Elton started writing for the series, it picked up quite a bit. To anyone who hasn't seen the show, I always advise them to begin with the second series.

"Did they ever specifically say they changed their sound to sell more albums? "
