The Weinsteins bought the rights to the original when they announced the remake plans.
The only reason I'm waiting for this remake to come out is that the Weinsteins will have to put out the original on Blu-ray, although I'm not expecting amazing things if their treatment for the titles in the Dragon Dynasty line are anything to go by.
