I appreciate the insight, thanks. I wasn't sure about how the comic put things, but I certainly can see how the timeline change bothers people. Bottom line though, they can do whatever they want with it. Hopefully they'll use their collective head and make it work and make it worth while for us all. :)

@ both erzwatts and it must be bunnies

I think that by coming back in time, Spock and Nero changed events, so whatever happened in the prequel wouldn't necessarily conflict with what happens after the parallel timeline is created. I didn't read that prequel though, so I really don't have any details other than what you've mentioned. Did that make any

Agreed. He's definitely not sidekick material. But he's so damn cool...maybe a real person could be a sidekick for him...Sam L.?

Thanks! I'll check that out, it looks good!

Great article. You are quite possibly my favorite writer on io9, Miss Newitz.

isn't it only 1/6 standard though? I don't know if that's a significant enough force of gravity to maintain the functions our bodies are used to long term...I really have no idea though.

This is my fourth or fifth post on this article now...it must have really struck a chord with me. You will be my last—good call, sir.

NICE! Can we pit Tebow against Scarecrow? Faith versus Fear!

Aw, man! you beat me to Mal! Nice. I want Spike Spiegel then, which I've already posted that SOMEONE needs...may as well be me.

Indeed (for the SNL comment).

Sorry, last one—someone needs Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, although his or her coolness will pale in comparison to Spike's, no matter who he or she is.

And Warren Ellis gets Data!

I don't really think you are grumbling. It's fine to think of yester-year and what you liked about it or what you miss. I'm only 27 but I grumble about how music I grew up on was much better than the top-40 today, how 90's anime was more ruthless and edgy (ninja scroll!), how legos used to be simpler (better) and

That is the first reference to PJ Harvey I ever recall seeing on io9 and I approve. Thanks.

Here here. I do this more often than I like to admit. I enjoyed this article and feel like a lot of us probably need to hear it from time to time.

I don't think the cicada-killers sting...not sure where I heard/read that though.

Is there a poster of this I can buy? It would be great in my study or office!

As for Star Trek 2 having no remakes/rehashes...aren't the new movies in a separate universe or timeline due to spock and nemo coming back and changing events? Wouldn't that mean that any worries as to a Wrath of Khan reworking are for naught? They can do whatever they like now and not worry about messing with older
