I miss weekly recaps. Pre-air reviews serve a purpose, but you can’t ever get a good conversation going in the comments. With the weekly recaps, everyone was in the same place, had watched the same things, and you could mix it up a bit. Instead we’ve got a review that will get maybe a dozen comments. It’s sad.
I’ve mentally created an expanded universe where Hacks, Barry, and The Other Two are all connected. And each one is delightful (and harrowing) in its own way.
Super pumped for this. Jean Smart is a treasure.
The extension cord has a twist lock on it. Gus unlocks it so he can lead Lalo down there when he eventually arrives and then kick the cord apart sending them into total darkness. He can then count off the steps to get the loader and retrieve the gun from under the tread and put one in Lalo’s ridiculously contrived…
I don’t think the word “appease” means what you think it means.
Wow, that’s amazing.
I love how they made a subtle nod to Kim’s dilemma when she checked the time when she was restless early in the episode. It was 3:17 but there’s a small reflection that reads “LIE”. I swear, they never miss an opportunity to add in some nuance
In the S4 finale, Lalo tracks down Werner and briefly talks to him on the phone before Mike stops Werner from saying anymore. It’s why Gus decides Werner has to die.
I have to admit I was surprised by 2 things this week. One, the teasers from last week were for the first time I can remember, fairly correct in what they revealed to the viewer—-I had figured that Howard meeting Jimmy in the boxing gym meant that he found out about the scheme.
Hugh Manity? Good Lord, that show sounds awful.
It also helps that NBC’s tech staff remembered how to do an audio mix this week, with everything from tinkling bells to backing vocals coming through crisply and in proportion.
How the Benedict Cumberbatch movie opened in alternate universes:
I think on-the-fly in a live show it was fine. Beat some of the Brit accents by the cast in this episode, but again on live TV, good enough.
I just wanted to post a Cecily Strong appreciation post as the more time she’s been in this show, the funnier she gets. It’s a shame the show never used her as well as they are now because she’s just great
No mention of Heidi Gardner’s wonderful work in the Blue Bunny sketch.
The Fainting Couch was bad. If we’re going to make fun of early 20th century over-sensibilities we might want to check our contemporary inclinations to get fretful over every little thing too.
i know comedy is subjective but i thought ‘new toilet’ was hilarious.
Man-man?! The superhero who is the size of a man but with the proportional strength of a man?!
I thought it for a second and now that second has turned into hours:
an interesting mess at best
Folks, this is NOT a good movie at all; just a pretty good idea for one.
