What got me is the mother’s description of her son appearing “to be absent of feeling, ‘like a dog.’” I’ve never met or heard or read about a dog that didn’t display emotion. This guy sounds like the textbook sociopathic.

Well written, and I have to commend you on your username. Every so often though, I have to ask myself what Corbin meant when he said that. Was he being facetious? Why did the police accept his answer?

I wanted to add to your list with this link to a Frontline documentary on forensics: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/fro…. It’s apparently a few years old (2012), but it’s stayed with me since I watched it. As a matter of fact, Frontline also did a documentary on child death cases and I recall it being brought up that

Good luck. Maybe you can also leave up some holiday decor. I’m thinking fake tombstones poking out of your lawn, alongside a giant inflatable turkey, and a Christmas manger scene to top it all off.

Nearly volcano level.

I’ll probably get this four-film for a friend’s birthday but yeah, I wonder if some ultimate collection will come out in a year, and then I’ll regret having bought this. It seems strange too that so much material could fit onto one disc, or maybe Blu-Ray is different from DVDs in that way?

My face totally looks like this right now (swollen from reaction to poison ivy).

In some ways, it’s a relief to read a book that’s a one-off. I try to avoid starting a series that’s still in progress, as I will inevitably forget everything that happened in a previous book. Though I could see this being a series. There’s certainly plenty that could be expanded upon.

Agreed! I was telling a friend, who’s struggling through the first part of the book, that I thought the friendship between Agneszka and Kasia was one of the best parts of the story. One might think the contrast between them might be the basis of a rivalry, but they truly love each other despite each others’ faults.

My friend got me hooked on the Great Book of Amber but I’ve yet to pick up any other Zelazny. I think I’ll try A Night in the Lonesome October soon. I had no idea it was “Lovecraftian” but I’ve seen some intense, positive reviews of the book online.

I prefer trade paperback, probably because the mass market paperback books from the library tend to be the ones that are falling apart.

I loved Howey’s Wool but the reviews I saw of Sand on Goodreads seemed more circumspect. There’s also only like one copy of this book in my local library system. Maybe I’ll bump this closer towards the top of my list. And I loved Leckie’s two Ancillary books. I can’t wait for the final book to come out in Oct.

I just powered through Naomi Novik’s Uprooted yesterday. I thought it was a lovely coming-of-age story, about a young woman who discovers she is a witch. I thought it was reminiscent of some of Robin McKinley’s work, for people who are interested in (YA) fantasy-romance.

There are times when I’ll see a cluster of fairly well-dressed young people begging on a street in Manhattan, like one at the end of a block and one more in the middle of the same block. I wonder sometimes if some acting class has its students go out and pretend to be homeless.

That’s really nice of you. I’ve done that only twice, gotten food for a homeless person, after they asked and specified what it was that they wanted. Like a homeless guy standing outside of a McDonald’s asking if I could get him some fries as I walked in. I’d prefer doing that to getting them something they’ll just

Possibly wizard hands (or feet).

Now I don’t feel so bad about my poor consumption habits, though it’s something I intend to fix. I realized my rats are slightly overweight from all the starchy foods my partner and I feed them. They’re supposed to get multiple servings of fruits and veggies a day for optimal health, and it’s depressing when I have

That’s so weird. I had no idea the Russo brothers had directed Winter Soldier as well as all these television episodes. I did enjoy Winter Soldier but didn’t really pay attention to the directing. I wonder if I’d like Ant Man then, seeing as how I’ve enjoyed their work, despite not usually liking comic book movies.

Die Hard’s on my to-watch list, though I have to admit it’ll probably be with the accompanying Rifftrax playing at the same time!

Yes! I thought it was pretty funny, like it’s paintball again but in different circumstances.
