I can't help but think of how when you first start dating someone, you don't want to use the bathroom in their presence, especially if God forbid he or she could hear you! I wonder if people back then were inhibited in the same way. I get that courtship would be much more restrictive, but did people worry about

Ha, I'd seen that picture before but I just now noticed the conifer branch stuck in one of the water bottles.

I was wondering how this would be portrayed on the show. I don't remember it so much from my reading of Outlander, but the graphic novel The Exile definitely highlighted the potential steaminess of the situation.

So I guess Jezebel and io9 occasionally will offer Outlander recaps? Speaking of hand-holding, did anyone catch Jamie holding Claire's hand when he guides her to a seat during the concert in last week's episode? I didn't participate so much in last week's discussion but I hadn't noticed any other comments on that.

I'd actually imagined Dougal as being younger, maybe like 10 years older than Claire? But he does seem very well-cast. He has this handsome presence that makes him believable as a war chief.

There's that headshake Claire gives Jamie when he fetches her from Geillis's house, and Geillis has asked him to stay so that Claire can share her childhood with them. And I got the sense when Geillis was in Claire's dungeon before the Gathering that Claire was rather annoyed at her being there (giving brief answers,

I was surprised by the characterization of Geillis on the show. Geillis seemed like Claire's friend when I read Outlander (OK, maybe the fact that she <mumbles> <does Kinja not handle spoiler tags?>). The show is making it clear from the beginning that Claire doesn't trust her.

In the future, will Outlander recaps be on io9 or Jezebel? I look forward to them either way!

I had the same reaction to the death scene. Very well played, and it underscores Claire's experience and Dougal's compassion. I've noticed comments by readers who thought Claire and Dougal might end up together in the book (assuming that's not a spoiler!).

I became a fan of Richard Armitage after watching North and South. He's like the original giver of smoldering looks although it's harder to crush on him when he's costumed as a dwarf in The Hobbit.

I've got it downloaded onto my Kindle. Thank goodness for public domain literature. Now I've just actually got to start reading it … It's not the kind of book I'm tempted to pick up when I want to relax.

I loved Kafka on the Shore and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I was just talking about Murakami with a friend the other day, who's read some of his books in Japanese. We agreed that his writing is very spare and clear. It makes his books easy reading for me, despite the length of some of them.

Sand has been on my to-read list for awhile. I loved the Wool series, but Sand got some uneven reviews on Goodreads so I've been putting off reading it.

I really liked both books. I know there's some hate for these books because of the immaturity of the protagonist. He's not a very likeable person. But I feel the books really capture what it means to grow up, to take responsibility for one's actions, and to care for others. I have the final book of the trilogy on my

Currently reading: Voyager, by Diana Gabaldon. I started reading the series shortly before Outlander premiered. I'm really enjoying them, though I've been skimming parts because the books are so long.

Heartbreaking quote from the linked story:

I was just thinking about the episode this morning, how much I appreciate the few minutes they took to show Mrs. Fitzgibbons dressing Claire. I don't recall that scene being in the book nor much description of how the women dressed. Even the way they shot that scene, with Claire stripping and then putting on all these

I didn't pick up the books until after the show had been announced, and I couldn't help but picture Heughan and Balfe as the leads in my mind. They seem to fit the parts perfectly to me. I'm glad the show didn't cast more well-known actors.

Smoldering!

Yeah, I think of it as the Shyamalan ending. When people point out emphatically not to read spoilers about a movie, I think there must be a twist involved.
