That has always bothered me about the show. In comparison, the cast of MAD TV, which I believe was taped out in LA, seemed much more diverse.

I wouldn't say he was the world's best dad if he was "unmindful to the traffic around him" while pushing a stroller.
Thanks for putting it so well. I can't stand it when rapists try to defend themselves by bringing up a woman's clothing, like the way a woman dresses is an invitation to treat her a certain way.
I used a spackling tool and some specialized solution to remove the adhesive bits. T'was a major pain because the sticker was on the lower part of the windshield, near the dashboard.
Ooh, I've never heard of Leuchtturm. Photos of their journals remind me of Moleskine. I used to use Moleskines but began to be displeased with the way my rollerball pens bled through the pages. I think that must have coincided with Moleskine moving manufacturing to China. I don't recall having a problem with their…
Great point.
Good point about location. In Manhattan, I see people eating alone all the time. Not just young people but older people who I imagine are divorced or widowed. I forget that in other places, people going out by themselves is not the norm.
I remember reading this advice once about meeting people in a new city. One of the suggestions was to frequent a bar at the same time, same day of the week once a week. That way you'd become a regular and become familiar with the other regulars. I was able to do that with a coffeeshop in my old neighborhood, but where…
So when I was single, I lived with roommates. One of my favorite weekend rituals was to get brunch by myself at a neighborhood restaurant. (Like bluebird179, I'm also an introvert.) I'd always sit at the counter and read a book or magazine or write in my journal while eating. It was nice to get out of the apartment,…
I'm so sorry for what you've gone through. And that vomiting/urinating/menstruating "tip" bothered me as well. It implies that making yourself appear unattractive decreases the likelihood of rape, which might be true if rape were about sex and not power and control, as you said. It's as if people forget that children,…
The fact reminds me of Wilson, the volleyball, from Castaway!
Yes!
Not that I condone trolling, but the discussions she had via Twitter encouraged Megan Phelps to leave Westboro Baptist Church: https://medium.com/reporters-notebook/d63ecca43e35
Thanks for an inspiring story.
Ha ha, hilarious! You're missing a spoiler alert though for your comment.
I did the exact same thing with Game of Thrones. I'm a little annoyed with the roughly five year wait until the next book but happy that George R.R. Martin recently released another chapter from it on his site.
I liked being able to share my reactions to an episode with my roommates, but in the end, our schedules just didn't sync up enough for me to want to wait. That's nice of you that you pretended you hadn't watched an episode already though.
I feel the same way about books—I'd rather read a series all at once or not until all the books have been written. I can't stand the wait between episodes. I've heard great things about The Wire and will probably tackle that sometime in the future.
I don't have cable, so I've only seen a few random clips of Portlandia online. I'll try to find a link to that sketch. Thanks for the rec!
