They won’t do that because, contrary to the belief in a perfect free market, consumers are terrible at doing research and taking into account ancillary costs.

just wanted to point out that the point of reclining seats on planes isn’t to give yourself more space, but to change the sitting angle to avoid back pain from unsupportive airplane seats. In that regard the need to recline is no different between a 6'2 260lb man or a 5'1 120 lb lady.
