I think folks are hostile to Siri in particular because Apple way oversold its capabilities when it was first introduced.

Agreed. Hasn’t been enough since ‘81. No reason to think that will change.

Had similar experience at Audi dealer.

So, historians, what is the earliest conspiracy theory? I’m sure there’s something earlier, but I’ll kick this off with “Shakespeare didn’t write his plays”, circa 1850 thanks to Delia Bacon.

The Juke is a terrible highway cruiser because of the noise. Maybe it was the tires on my rental Juke, but if I hadn’t packed my NC headphones I wouldn’t have survived the trip.

Try dark neighborhoods with people wearing dark clothing, who themselves don’t look for cars before crossing a street. It ain’t easy.

A related problem: Noting it, but then using pretty cryptic notes that are meaningless to me even a few days later.

And the rear-door opening is small. Not great for a carseat.

They live next to the Jordanianains, the Israelialites, and the Syrianananans.

Agreed: Two excellent counter-examples.

Other than Ozzie Newsome and (probably) Danny Ainge, I’m struggling to think of an ex-athlete turned GM who did/does a good job. Magic hasn’t impressed so far, and to varying degrees Isiah Thomas, Mitch Kupchak, Matt Millen, John Elway all fell flat.

I do not mean to hijack this fragment of the thread, but omg have you just described the leader of our government.

I once attended an MLB game with a friend who was a former minor league pitcher. He predicted most pitches correctly, identified every pitch the instant it left the pitcher’s hand, and generally explained what was going on and why. He even once said “oh, the catcher’s gonna go to the mound here”, which he did. It was

Almost all those guys started, if not played, at some time in their career. Here’s the 1st round of the MLB draft in 2013 (you can see more years at http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/history/draft/draft.jsp#) Fully 1/3 never make it to the bigs at all. Aside from pitchers, only a handful of the rest had meaningful MLB careers.

The problem with baseball is that success seems less predictable. I’m sure he’ll be able to field just fine, and he has a rifle for an arm. But he won’t know if he can figure out major league pitching until he faces it regularly. (See Maas, Kevin). And if he can’t, he’s out. He hit .296 in limited playing in college.

It’s been replaced by a steel beams exhibit.

That was my reference to product design, not marketing. And I’m not the first person to say this:

Simply put, Juul is an evil company, with (yes) evil employees. It was clear from the beginning that Juul deliberately targeted teens through the product design itself (“teachers and parents will think it’s a USB drive!”), as well as its advertising (youthful models doing youthful things, etc.), marketing, and product
