The Porsche story is rather more convoluted than that. Ferdinand Porsche came from Bohemia (now the Czech Republic); he was a citizen of the Austro-Hungarian empire who ended up working for Daimler Benz in Germany (Stuttgart); set up shop there (an engineering consultancy); his children started production of the first

In 1999, when the latest (restyled) version of the Omega was introduced to the press, there were persistent rumours of an upcoming “Corvette-engined” version.

Exactly.

That I can tell you in one word, Mr Orlove: tradition! (cue the chorus of The Fiddler on the Roof).

Indeed it is.

Porsche Tapiro, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Fabrizio Giugiaro.

I remember reading that years ago, when a Spit or a Hurricane did a low flypast during a Revival, Jochen Mass jumped on some sort of vintage military vehicle that was around, got himself behind the machine gun, aimed at the aircraft and tried to shoot it down by doing loud rat-a-tat-tat noises.

Wow, Fräulein Schrader herself! I’m honored!

On the other hand, the doors in that car did slid downwards, which allowed a different driving experience.

The one in the picture is in fact a sportier variant of the Carrera GT: GTS.

I have always had a very soft spot for Jürgen Barth’s 924 rally cars, the original slimline design by Lagaay being so extremely elegant:

“Loaf of bread” (pão de forma) is how VW Typ 2 are popularly called in Portugal.

037s had 2.0-litre engines.

Yes, but.

You are welcome.

TAG, or Techniques d’Avant Garde paid for the development of the V6 Porsche-TAG engine for McLaren. Look up “Mansour Ojjeh”. Yes, they were or still are involved with Heuer. They even had something to do with a little utility vehicle called the CroCo. I think Ojjeh fancied himself a hi-tech entrepreneur.

Admittedly he does not say they plan to use the car in competitive events, but I would be extremely surprised if they didn’t once it is restored. Maybe not in all-out races, but I can perfectly imagine Röhrl (he drove the “German” 924 GTP, if I remember correctly) going with it to the Le Mans Legend or Le Mans

I was wondering about a proper marketing reason, not a public relations/”wallowing in our long, rich tradition” reason.

Not quite.
