"It's a flying saucer, hon. We gotta go." I want to be deliver this line in such a matter of fact matter any time my girlfriend gets distracted from the main objective, whatever that may be (dinner, getting from point A to point B, or digging for gold in all the wrong places).

For all the Coen Bros remix elements so far this season, I think the hostage-in-the-cabin bit might be the best-executed so far. It's a clear homage but it works, and it works brutally well, right down to the one of the crooks executing the other.

But how would the use of South Pacific airbases over Chinese ones result in Karl Weathers facing down Chiang (even metaphorically)?

Not sure how referencing Chiang Kai-Shek invokes Vietnam in any way. Unless you're referencing the fact that Taiwan was aligned with South Vietnam and provided anti-communist support. But again - Karl's claim of facing down Chiang doesn't make a lick of sense in that context, either.

Karl Weathers is Walter Sobchak's competent avatar.

History buffs, please check something for me.

It's a very similar setup. Former costume as hard-boiled PI, rather pissy/anti-social attitude, strong feminist bent, "adult situations" abound, and yes, a female protagonist.

I'm excited for this, if only because this will be the closest we ever get to Ann Nocenti's phenomenal "Typhoid" miniseries, which and paved the way for Alias/Jessica Jones five years before the fact.

Paging Jim Jarmusch. Paging Jim Jarmusch.

I tried rewatching this with several friends a few years ago while high. I promptly fell asleep before the first act was done. The pacing of this movie is sometimes like molasses, although seeing young Liam Neeson swashbuckling about is pretty fun, and Lysette Anthony was (and still is) a treat for the eyes.

Yeah, six years late to the party!

The answer to the question of the title is, "Meh."

The Eric Andre/TJ Miller panel is 20 of my favorite minutes of TV. It's just so insane, and it's hilarious to see Jeselnik struggle between trying not to *completely* break and being pissed off. It's one of the few times his smooth, smarmy, douchey facade has publicly crumbled.

I fucking hate Jess so much, it's ruined Milo Ventimiglia for me overall.

Nick Andopolis' version is STILL THE BEST

It's okay, but it lacks the articulation and energy of the original. Tori's is still the best.

Well Pete, I figured it should be the one with the capacity for abstract thought. But if that ain't the consensus view, then hell, let's put it to a vote.

So NBC's going to reboot Parks & Rec?

I got it, but I think only because I'm Chinese.

Also speaking as an Asian - the casting of the AoT live-action was extremely annoying to me, because I felt it was a huge lost opportunity to really bring Japanese pop culture into the Western mainstream.
