good comments all around - was talking with a friend the other day about how badly we need chappelle's unique voice these days.

*shrug*

No "Edge of Darkness"?  I know it was technically imported with that movie adaptation Mel Gibson did a few years ago, but the original series was an insanely dark, twisted, paranoid eco/nuclear/conspiracy thriller that featured one of the most harrowing depictions of a father's grief over a murdered child I've yet

interesting little sidenote re: nathan's personality in relation to his power: in the first series, the characters all had powers related to their personal issues  - simon, who was insecure and shy, turned invisible.  kelly, who was misunderstood and had a little trouble with empathy, was able to hear other people's

Shouldn't it actually be: Man… Or Astro-Man!  I mean, if we're being pedantic with our punctuation (alliteration!), we should probably go with what's most commonly printed on their albums…

Whoops, just realized the Talk Talk line they ripped was actually in "Heal," (from "Happy Days") (or "Heal 2," if you prefer the "Like Cats and Dogs" version).  Although I could've sworn they used it somewhere on "Adam and Eve," as well.

My initial point, which I meant to mention somewhere in there before getting sidetracked with tech talk, was that it was silly they were called shoegaze at all, considering they they didn't use nearly the amount of effects pedals to achieve their sound as their contemporaries (not as much shoe-staring, I guess) - BUT

I don't see M83 as hacky.  Kitschy, maybe, but he knows exactly what he's doing and what risks he's taking musically.  I'd rather hear an artist jump off a cliff with their eyes closed and take ridiculous chances (such as an 80's-aping double album of proggy synth rock) than release 3-4 albums of competent, middling

LHAS is a pretty solid album, and TSvSV is usually right tied somewhere with "The Fashion" Focus and "Dial M" for space on my iPod.

Love the album ("Going Blank Again" is a little too goofy for my tastes - though "Twisterella" is pure pop bliss), but yeah, it does kinda of all sound like a tinny roar after awhile…
