As a Raptors fan since the earliest days, let me say: this is weird. I don’t know what to make of this. We didn’t fail and that’s unnerving.

Missouri, a Trump voting hell hole, is thisclose to taking away womens’ right to choose. Their cops make a hobby out of shooting black people. Their fans call themselves “the best” and they aren’t being ironic. But I won’t say “Fuck St Louis”. Those hicks have done worse to themselves than anyone could do to them.
I think we can all as Deadspinners agree with fuck St. Louis sports fans, but we can also agree with fuck Boston everything. This was good to watch.
The amount of fucks yelled when the players are raising the cup is amazing! I can’t wait for all of the pearl clutching letters to the FCC.
what’s a boston
I always talk to my kids about their successes, too.
I like this story because in a way it’s uniquely American. It’s about sporting excellence, pride in your accomplishments and not even pretending to understand the concept of moderation.
This reminds me of what my father used to tell me about good sportsmanship... “Don’t be such a baby. I’ll make it to the next game.”
According to multiple commentators, it apparently shows more respect to the losing team for the winning team to keep playing at their fullest until the end of the match. I guess noticeably pulling back can be a form of insult. Plus there’s the whole goal differential thing as previously mentioned.
“The goal is to win, not humiliate the other team. You get three points no matter how much you win by.”
Once more for the criminally angery sportsmanship folks: there is goal differential in play. This is the highest tournament at the highest level for women’s soccer. Score as much as possible, advance, win. This isn’t for warm fuzzies this is for all the marbles and 13-0 means USWNT doesn’t have to sweat a tie breaker…
And you certainly don’t run up the score by 13 goals against a team who’s ranked 40 spots below you
Scoring in a World Cup is personal as much as it is for the benefit of the team. Mallory Pugh scored the eleventh goal, and it was her first ever goal in a World Cup (in her first World Cup game). Alex Morgan tied a USWNT record. It’s always a big deal to score in a World Cup, and these players are allowed to…
Meh.
“The US continuing to score goals was uncalled for. They were just humiliating poor Thailand.”
What are they supposed to do, dribble it around in their end? Dunno about you, but I’d walk right over and punch someone in the mouth for that. It’s not like a big college football program whipping a little one and having the option to play the roughly 300-ish walk ons on the sideline who haven’t been in a game since…
Don’t hurt yourself with that reach, king.
No need to pad the score against the Thai.
