I had the same thoughts.
I use WhatsApp to keep in contact with friends and family overseas. I get that people rightfully dislike Facebook for its negative influence but that’s a limited view, IMO.

It’s China. Is anyone surprised? I’m more surprised when they create an original work that isn’t about Journey to the West or the 3 Kingdoms. China is not very original when it comes to story telling.
