Okay, I was going to come in and defend Big Fish (yes, it’s maudlin, but it’s also sweet in a way Burton usually isn’t), but you saved the listicle by giving a nod to Ravenous, which is a delight. Aside from the Jeffrey Jones aspect, but I mean, I can separate the art and the artist.

It’s still going because Apple is viewing Apple+ as a loss leader for the time being. Remember when Netflix started with the dump trucks full of money to make original programming that blew everyone away to cement their position as a great source for streaming content? Apple is in that phase of its lifecycle.

I mean, if it had the pep of Brisco County Jr, I’d be incredibly down.

Why does this clip give me “90s syndicated action show” energy? But like, with less pep on the script than those usually had.

So, the only thing I’ve seen by Garland was Devs, and that was fucking terrible (it had a lot of promise, and certainly offered enough to keep me watching, but by the end, I was just suffering through because I’d already come so far).

Have pip boy, will travel  get devoured by a deathclaw.

As someone who is not a fan of the Last of Us games, the show also sucked. I have no understanding why it was so popular. Worse, it often felt like I was watching a video game being played, with a distinct sense of “This feels like a cut scene between action sequences”.

> This trailer, more than any of the others…

Financially, perhaps. Creatively? No, definitely not.

Which is why it’s so disappointing that they didn’t actually make any interesting choices. As you say- they could have deviated from the source material, instead of doing a hackneyed impression of it.

I gotta be honest, this trailer, more than the others, gives me the sense that this is actually a soulless, dry, husk of its own premise. Every choice in the trailer seems like the “safe” choice for the franchise. Sorta a greatest hits album of what Fallout is supposed to be.

I think it’s that austerity which bothers me. The Fremen live austere lives, but everyone else comes from a baroque galactic society that operates with no consideration for, well, anyone or anything. Their outposts on Arrakis should, to my mind, reflect their hubris. The galactic citizens are not austere, or subtle,

For all its faults, the art direction in Lynch’s Dune was top notch. The right level of fever dream.

> Every inch of Dune: Part Two is dripping with style

Now I just want to re-read Grunts.

I can answer this question for you.

Is this the second project in a week with Michael Paré in it? Why? Are we suddenly in a Parenassiance?

At least somebody got sued for this debacle. Embarrassingly, sued for plagiarism, but whatever.

Being outacted by Willem Dafoe is no shame, Willem Dafoe is amazing. Being outacted by Rick Moranis is no shame. We all love Rick Moranis. Being outacted by Willem Dafoe’s high-waders is no shame, because they might be an inanimate object, but they’re the only thing Dafoe is wearing.

I mean, yes, I was just chiming in to agree, with my own specifics.
