Like a lot of RTD’s stories, you end up with an idea that is emotionally valid and relevant but also logically out of nowhere and a bit of a cop-out. While bi-generation isn’t without precedent (The Watcher in Logopolis is a good example), this is one that just ends up being so incredibly convenient without any real

That is incredibly stupid; since it’s meta-text and not text, I look forward to that idea being dropped before it goes too far. Here’s hoping RTD doesn’t overstay his welcome.

The bi-regen doesn’t bother me, as this isn’t the first time a future incarnation and a current incarnation shared a regeneration episode. And honestly, this was better than “Logopolis”.

Maybe, but it doesn’t have to be. Doctor Who has left the universe on multiple occasions, including the first encounter with the Toymaker, as well as the trip to E-Space (which is where Romana was last seen and where Adric came from).

It’s not just RTD. Some of the blame goes to the late 80s era, with the Cartmel Master Plan, which is 100% something that Chibnall blew the dust off with the Timeless Child thing.

I guess when I was referring to the Time Lords, I meant more the stories which feature Time Lord society extremely heavily, or spend a lot of time on Gallifrey. Or even stuff like the Key of Time, which yes, Romana is a great introduction, but the whole thing is a really dull MacGuffin quest with a few kinda fun

Can I just say: I hate Doctor Who mythology. I love the show, and have loved it since PBS aired the Tom Baker era episodes. But the show is at its best when the mythology is simple: the Doctor is a weird person in a time machine who shows up in the middle of fraught situations and fixes them.

It’s got just enough surprise to it, and a lot of charm coming off Ferrell and Reynolds. Neither is a particularly great singer, so the musical numbers are serviceable but not spectacular performances (but the choreographer is working overtime to keep the spectacle going).

I was not prepared for Violent Night to feel so intensely Christmas movie as it did, especially considering how violent and gory it is, and yet the final moments you’re like, “YAY, CHRISTMAS MAGIC! I BELIEVE IN CHRISTMAS!”

Spirited and Violent Night are two movies that are both better than they have any right to be. There’s a much worse version of each movie that is satisfied with its premise and hits the rote plot beats and is forgettable. But both of them really try to be the best version of the premise and it elevates the movies a lot

In fact, one could argue, it would perhaps be the most Doctor Who thing imaginable to vacillate between being really great, and a little bit shit.

It’s also a celebration of ridiculous camp, in the most RTD way. For each moment the no-things were creepy, they were also goofy looking as hell.

A daredevil pilot who augers their plane into the ground may be brave. They’re also a fuckup.

I do think rooting the metacrisis resolution in character identity was a good move, but the execution was a bit ham handed. But that’s RTD, isn’t it: the stories don’t make sense, and the emotional beats are strung together like a child’s charm bracelet, but it keeps zipping along quick enough that you won’t notice.

Though Rick Prime lied about not giving the device a name. “Inferior” beings call it the Omega Device, Rick Prime calls it “Booger Aids”, according to the schematics Evil Morty downloaded.

Remember that Tesla’s main profits come from trading carbon offsets: instead of reducing CO2, Tesla uses the fact that they’re making electric cars to sell other companies the right to produce more CO2. In net, Tesla is increasing atmospheric CO2.

Prior to the Timeless Child, we already knew that the Time Lords were dangerous and corruptible, frequently manipulative, and often careless. I’m not sure that this really adds anything new to that. And even if we add a Timeless Child to make that dickery manifest, it doesn’t need to be the Doctor.

Put me in the camp that the Timeless Child stuff is nonsense and should be ignored. Part of the charm of the Doctor is that it’s their attitude which makes them special.
