Do you ever park on an incline, even a gentle one? Do you like your engine mounts? If both these things are true… use your goddamn parking brake. Think of it this way- if you don’t, you’re using your engine to hold your car in place.

His first reaction to Barb’s disappearance is, “I’m going to get in trouble for drinking.” Yes, he apologizes for it and corrects his behavior- his character grows and changes as the story progresses. But Barb’s initial assessment wasn’t wrong- Steve was changed by the events of the story.
Backup on #1: based on the information she had, Barb was right. Steve spends most of the time being an asshole. He redeems himself, but Barb wasn’t wrong. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t in the thankless “no fun” role in the story, but Steve has to make some serious changes as a character before she was wrong about him.
She had a boring role in the plot- nobody likes the character who’s the nay-saying, fun-killing “you know better than this” person. But I think the actress did a fine job with the role she was given, and she has a natural look to play Doreen.
It’s been a landmark story for longer than I’ve read comics. Mind you, I didn’t get into comics until I was well into my twenties. The point stands.
We’ve covered this elsethread. Yes, I misread the post. We all agree on this. Do try and keep up.
Obviously, I’m a nihilistic malcontent who should be dealt with most harshly.
It’s more like method casting. “Let’s cast the living incarnation of this character.”
Jesus Christ, dude, I don’t sit watching my io9 notifications. Yes, I misread his post. I did read the whole thing, I just didn’t understand it, because my brain already shifted into rant-gear.
I did misread your post, yes.
YEAH. Fuck people who have opinions about things. They should just shut up and keep their opinions to themselves. Nobody wants to see an online discussion of a mass-media portrayal of a cultural touchstone character and a landmark story in that character’s history. Why is anybody even discussing this? People should…
I guess it’s just the lack of scale and the bulky armor, then. She looked tiny in the first picture.
I’m not generally picky about casting changes, but if that petite lady from the Expanse photo is supposed to be Bobbie Draper, I am disappointed. One of Bobbie’s defining traits is that she’s huge and imposing.
It’s not just Texas, but yes, Texas was the specific instance I had in mind, in this case Plano.
Americans have to drive everywhere if they don’t want to get run down by a car going 45MPH. I have the good fortune to live in a city where I don’t really need to drive, but I travel a good bit for work, and I frequently need to rent a car just to drive 0.5 miles, because walking that distance is a suicide mission…
Bruce playing Reed Richards confirmed. Actually… that casting isn’t entirely terrible, especially if we do a Sam Raimi Fantastic Four, which would actually be a really great choice.
Now, that I agree with entirely. I don’t think life in the universe will look anything like terrestrial life, even if it forms from the same basic components (which I’d be open to exploring wildly different components, including non-molecular life- but I’m not about to claim such things exist).
And there’s something called “tone”. If you want to make a show where we’re examining the subtle motivations of the characters, perhaps you shouldn’t start the episode with a gigantic clone-angel-respawn battle right after the last episode ended with people getting shotgunned in the chest.
Right, but you’re missing my core point- if you want to argue that the Earth is special and unique, that requires evidence. Assuming mediocrity is as close as we can get to the null hypothesis, and thus, I assume Earth is typical and common.
You extrapolate from the dataset you have, not the dataset you wish you had.
