Michael Crighton is at least a bit underrated. He was never super great at writing people, but I admire him for trying to apply some actual science to his stories, even if it was fringe, crackpot science. And he was a great storyteller.
To put it another way, I've only ever read two books in one sitting…The Great

"But it's just realistic!" is the cry of every guy who's ever used rape as shorthand for drama in their fiction.
You know what else is realistic? People having painful dental problems. Ingrown nails. Body odor. STDs. Lice. Rabies. Dying from diarrhea. Simply finding a place to shit that won't infect you with something

I've always found Pokemon's Lavender Town conspiracy more creepy (if no less harebrained). I probably developed a blister from desperately cranking off the volume on my Gameboy whenever that music started up…

Time will tell in the long run, but I predict some future DSM update will show that being a child star in the post Internet age causes mental illness.
I'm not even joking. The sheer volume of child stars—from Bieber to Lohan—who break down in adulthood depresses me, and I don't find their "antics" very funny.
But then

We got live action Young Indiana Jones, sure..but why no Indy cartoon, ever? It's such a perfect fit, even now!

There is nothing at all wrong with a straight white male making a protagonist in a very personal project a straight white male. That's not what I'm saying. It's just fine to frame your story around what you know from your own life. Especially if you're striving to portray a specific experience, than no, don't bend

Oh no! What will happen to burgeoning artists 'Daft Punked'? I hope they can find careers outside of Tron. They weren't half bad.

Okay, seriously, where is the sign up to just dress as a Stormtrooper and just march around? 'Cause there's obviously thousands of these dudes.

"Write what you know" is a basic principle of creative writing, and there's nothing wrong with that. I would simply argue that you know more than might think. Use what you know as a jumping off point, but don't be afraid to at least try to explore other perspectives. It helps to begin by envisioning the character as a

We can finally see Harvey's early days as a coin themed accident attorney. "Hurt in an accident? Don't FLIP out! I'll make such DENT in the insurance company they won't be able to make heads or tails!
555-DENT"

I think the biggest perpetrators of sexism are the "don't-get-it"s. Well-meaning men who aren't actively virulent, but don't realize that they make everything male by default without even thinking about it. I call it "off weaving" syndrome. They aren't trying to be nasty, they just wrote a book or designed a game

True, but Handler considered it selling out initially. He pitched one of his weirdo novels, and the publisher was like, "No thanks…but how about you write a dark kids' series!" And he was like, "Uh, ok, I guess so…"

I didn't have it quite that bad…My middle school teacher simply lectured often about how honorable and right the Confederacy was, and that our (100 percent white) social studies class should be durn proud of our southern "heritage".

He's real, real sorry, so it's okay! JESUS sorry! We all learned something, which is why God decided it was okay for those girls to be raped! Bless those children for teachin us a right good lesson! Mebbe someday they'll really appreciate what they did for this family with their molestin!

Not everyone who sells out becomes a permanent hack. Daniel Handler admits he's made a fortune by yielding to publisher's demands to be Lemony Snicket much of the time, while using that wealth as a free ticket to write some absolutely phenomenal adult novels under his own name. (Seriously, read the Basic Eight and

I love Macbeth. Much of 7th grade was taken up with a severely abridged version of the Scottish Play. I was MacDuff, and spent a lot of time making up sword fights with my bud. Good times. Also? Unlike sports, theater was very, very coed.
So yeah, being a theater queer was pretty sweet.

It's not racist if a bland character no one really liked becomes a race I'm not comfortable with! It's about integrity of traditional race rolls, is all! What's truly racist is the liberal feminazis taking away my masculine, arian fire dudes!! ('Cause I can blame this on feminists, right? Right, of course I can.)

Prediction: MRAs will take violent exception to the character of Molly, who inherently offends their manly, masculine manity by being a woman.
Prediction 2: Molly will be played by 19-year-old model who can barely act, because Hollywood.
Assuming she doesn't get written out entirely.

I saw this with my squimish aunt when I was a kid, but it was me who freaked out and stopped eating the Lemonheads after the scene where New Zorro had to drink from the liquor pickling his brother's head. That was pretty messed up by any standards.

Grrr, brothers, our boycott is almost, kinda, not really working! There will only be like 2 or 3 more of these feminatzi movies thanks to our valiant, masculine efforts! Well done, MEN! For we are MEN! GRR! Behold our physiques, for we are MEN!!!
