Yes, when white westerners are used in anime and manga there is often no real difference in character design between Japanese and western characters, though their voices might attempt to add distinction, they often look similar. They are often intentionally ethnically ambiguous.

"The character (that the film character is based on) is an Asian stereotype. Casting an Asian man would've been seen as sticking to the traits of the character, as established."

I can assure you that manga characters drawn in the style you refer to don't by default look "white" to Japanese people.

I don't think I could defend it as a good movie, but Ang Lee's Hulk is at least an interesting failure and was in many ways ahead of its time. The Incredible Hulk on the other hand is just an utterly forgettable made-by-committee film.

You can' really blame JJ for that though.

Yes, they did the Starving Games. For these guys, making a 'parody' basically means making some sort of pop-culture reference to whatever is popular at the time. Not only is there nothing inherently funny about this, but it also means that the film is already dated before it comes out on DVD.

Eh, in general, spoof movies tend to age badly. Rewatching it now, the original Scary Movie does feel very dated, though interestingly less so than its sequels. What makes the movie still work for me is that it focuses much of its humor on horror tropes, so anyone with even a passing familiarity with the horror genre

Exactly. Yes, we get it. TFA nostalgia panders and it's almost the exact same movie as ANH. It's the easiest criticism and has already been pointed out by a million people. Still randomly regurgitating that argument 2 years later is not clever, it has gotten so old and tired. There's plenty of other, more substantive

Because nobody has pointed this out before.

Seriously though, it's mainly because their stuff is so cheap to make. Though their last film, The Starving Games failed to break even on a budget small even by their standards, so hopefully the same will happen again.

I'm assuming (or hoping) that AV Club are being sarcastic.

Oh my god Seltzerberg are making a spoof of Star Wars. I'm sure Lucasfilm and Disney are shaking in their boots.

That's not the original title tbf, it was changed to that by the English distributors.
