The cast/creators said she isn't even though the reunion episodes seem to imply that she is. Nicki Potnick was someone they did know in high school and apparently the Waitress was never on their radar.

I think they're also accustomed to answering questions like that because it comes with the territory.

Cricket is another normal person whose life they've ruined. Some of the other characters like Bill Ponderosa and the McPoyles were already screwed up.

I don't think Dee was underutilized in season 2…she was great. This is the same season she faked being crippled to land a guy, went on welfare, became a boxer, got hooked on steroids and crack, manipulated Cricket, coached basketball, sang, got a new dad…and has my favorite Dee line "I will kick the pillers in" and…
