Much obliged. I knew I couldn't be the only one having this problem!

I second that, but for Android. The caveat is that I can't stand on-screen directional pads for turn-based games. I should be able to press the menu item I want. I shouldn't have to arrow up or arrow down. Also, I need something that starts up fast and saves your state at a moment's notice for those times I have like

I don't think so. Most wifi-only Android tablets have GPS. You would need to make sure you had an app that would store your tracking information locally though.

Windows users, what are you using to rip DVDs? Having a hard time finding something free, reliable, and hassle-free.

People who boot into multiple operating systems: How do you manage your boot screen? Do you use the native windows boot menu, the native ubuntu boot menu, or something else? I have a Win7 partition, a Win8 partition, and an Ubuntu partition, and neither the ubuntu or windows boot menus really do what I want them to.

pretty sure it just pulls up the entire note

I know Evernote is the big name in note taking, but I prefer Catch for two reasons: it's had an ICS-optimized layout for a while and I'm a big Android user, and it allows in-line hash-tagging. I don't have to go to a separate screen to tag my posts. I just put in a # before a key word in the note, and boom, it's a tag

Well, if you're willing to pay a little more, but still a reasonable amount of money, you can have unlimited access to any music you want any time you want with things like Mog, Spotify, Rdio, etc. Hard to say it's the king when there are better products, even if they're more expensive.

Did we humble lifehackers bring down their servers?

400 dollars UP FRONT for the phone.

Honestly, I've found that any more research than reading the reviews, trying out the lite version of a paid app, and using the 15-minute return window (if on Android) probably isn't worth my time for something that usually costs less than 5 dollars.

I just jumped ship from Verizon and the carrier subsidy model to an unlocked phone. I got a Galaxy Nexus directly from Google Play and a SIM card from T-Mobile. I'm on the 30-dollar unlimited text/data (5gb data cap) monthly 4G prepaid plan. I also pulled my old phone number into Google Voice and started using the

I'd be curious about the effects of long rides on public transit as well. I like being able to use the time to catch up on RSS feeds and such, but I often find myself getting restless and irritable.

I'm not sure I would be able to go offline for a weekend.

I had a laptop for my last machine and went back to the desktop. But in my household, my girlfriend has a chromebook and I have a tablet, which we use when we want portability or to look things up on the Internet while watching TV. The computer is for serious productivity and serious gaming. With this set up, our

That's odd, but really I'd put Chrome on the SSD anyways—you probably want it to load faster, and it's not a large program. I generally save my my HDD for games and huge applications like Adobe creative suite.

A question for those who boot multiple operating systems. Is there some third-party boot manager I can install to manage everything? I have an ubuntu partition, a windows 8 partition, and a windows 7 partition. If I use the built-in ubuntu boot manager, I have to select Windows, then go into the windows boot manager

I had been wondering about whether we'd get to keep our old pricing structure. Huzzah!

That sounds like terribly unhelpful advice. People with bad self esteem will always find something about themselves they don't like. None of us are perfect, and trying to "fix" yourself just validates the idea that there's something wrong with you. And when you struggle to meet your goals you're going to come down

I find that starting a new project helps. It's counter-intuitive because if my motivation is lagging, it means I have a dozen things I haven't finished. But it's easier to get excited about new projects, and you can carry that excitement over to other aspects of your life. You start thinking in terms of possibilities
