That’s because the main defense to those crimes is not consent, as it is in many rape cases. So news outlets should be saying alleged victim, rather than victim. She is the accuser, there is nothing alleged about that, so perhaps it’s an easier identifier?

Her mother brought it into the press with her lies, the D.A absolutely had to respond publicly.

I’d probably use accuser (with any crime) when there’s no obvious and immediate evidence besides the person’s word that something occurred.

But add the fake/planted rape kit to that and you have to admit, it’s hard not to question the accuser’s credibility.

It annoys me when people refer to her as a “victim.” She’s only a “victim” if a crime occurred and there is still plenty of reason to believe it did not. The very terminology is presupposing guilt.
