My father suffered well into his 70s from PSTD from Vietnam.
They could also recognize that integrating back into civil society takes some time by making the final year of every veteran’s term of enlistment a time for job training, medical and mental health care, family re-connection, etc. in a civil setting without rank or uniform.
How the government treats vets reminds me of how they look at human life and being apposed to abortion:

If only the politicians would stop paying lip service to the veterans and make sure they actually fund services for returning vets who’ve seen using keeping them in uniform for a period after returning home so they can go through therapy, get accustomed to non military life, etc.
