While I was also hooked from the start of season 1, I specifically remember discussing with my girlfriend and sister (who were watching with me) how slow TD was. I referred to it as the “slowest show I’ve ever found really interesting.”

“I don’t know if Season 1 was the same, because I binged it all at once.”

Some of my favorite shows all started out slow; Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and of course True Detective season 1 all took several episodes to get going (in the case of Mad Men it was a couple seasons).

Whenever I wonder about season 2’s pace I think back to season 1 and that 4th episode. We get our 4th episode of season 2 next.

I don’t really see what there is to be mad about. If they had killed him off, there would probably be an article about how True Detective wasted a great actor. They can’t win either way.
