I read this on my phone and couldn’t wait to respond to the “what about me’s”. You worked hard and paid of your student loans? Congrats on having the financial capital that allowed you to crawl out from that financial burden. What about the parents that scrimped and saved every penny so that their children didn’t have

My husband purchased the home, he had zero student loans. I now help with the mortgage. “Can afford kids”? Do not presume to know anything about my choice to have a child thanks. Who said I own my car? Am I supposed to not take advantage of a company match on retirement? That is just stupid.

Totally agree with you.

This is our household as well. We look good on paper when you see 6 figures and no credit card debt.  But not having a student loan to pay every month would free up $400 per month, which I guarantee would go right into the kinds of things these people want us spending money on - a car payment, a vacation, upgrades to

Hell, I’d be thrilled to have just the interest that has accumulated removed. The government is making an absolute killing on me and my 7.9% interest on grad loans. I’m happy to pay what I borrowed, but any interest on federally funded education loans is highway robbery.

This isn’t my preferred plan for dealing with Student Loan debt, but I wouldn’t hate to actually get half of my take home pay instead of shipping it off to five different student loan companies. Even if I think Warren’s plan is much more realistic, this would completely change my life.

I’m sorry I don’t understand this mentality- I had it hard so you should to? I had to slave away and my family had to suffer due to fucked up economics and skyrocketing tuition- so you should to?

I’m reading Warren’s Two Income Trap that mostly deals with the way that women entering the workforce has made middle-class life — homeownership, child rearing, education — insanely expensive. Your story reminds me of it.

Exactly. The big income doesn’t really mean much if you had to borrow so much in order to be able to achieve that income that you’re spending it all on paying back the student loans.

As somebody who managed to graduate without debt from a combination of family contributions and working roughly 30/hours a week through school—I don’t need any money back. Graduating without debt is its own reward. I’ve been able to take risks (like working low-paying jobs with more flexible schedules, or move to a

And 90% of the objections to this will consist of, “No fair! You can’t have something good if I don’t get something good too!”

Re: high-earners with large student debt - I understand the discomfort around the idea of wiping out/reducing our debt, too. And, for sure, the income allows us to be in a less dire place even if we are cash-strapped because of the enormously burdensome payments. But I can affirm that those of us with big debt came

Is it? People who make six figures usually had to go through a lot of schooling to get there and six figures in a big U.S. city doesn’t get you very far. I make six figures and can hardly afford the interest on my student loans after mortgage (we did not overbuy), childcare, modest retirement contributions, groceries,

... and that’s even before Meryl Creepy enters the picture.

You have done the Lord’s Work, Tracy. Seattle was probably one of my last seasons of truly being in love with the Real World.

Its a great show. I wouldn’t even call the twists “twists” as the show doesn’t hide them from the audience. It’s more about the tension between the characters, and the reveals are handled in a way that respects the characters (meaning “let me sit down and tell you something” vs “look at this video I got sent

Was the corset a nod to like, olden times in the palace?

Me too. But I take some comfort in that a meeting like this won’t be happening. Pretty sure hell would freeze over before the Cambridges would invite Dump and Melanoma into their home to meet the kids. And I hope it pisses him off.

Now playing

I thought I’d see “the wink” somewhere on Jez this morning... I’ve always liked that Camilla!
