How is it "wrong"? Just because it isn't what you prefer, does that give it some moral standing?

I don't understand laws against passing on the right—meaning, driving in a perfectly good lane and you just happen to be going faster than someone else in a lane to your left. (Passing on the shoulder or other on-the-right instance where there isn't a real lane is a very different matter.)
