It’s like that old saying - I think it goes, “one bad apple has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the whole barrel.”

What needs to happen is, give him the maximum penalties for what he was charged with, and then double it. Cops should face double the punishment that a civilian does, because it’s their job to uphold the law, and they should know better.
“is being held at Dauphin County Prison without bail after a district judge ruled there are no conditions Davis can meet to be released at this time”
Good. A guy like this would absolutely be a danger to her if released.
Exactly, why can’t they frame this as a conspiracy against her in order to get the whole disgusting group? They were clearly helping him to figure out how to do this, not just “advised him” to contact county officials.
Any other troopers who were present and failed to stop Davis from assaulting and kidnapping his ex should be brought up on charges as well.
Police exist to keep marginalized people in line and to generate revenue for their cities.
Justice Scalia said as much in one of his rulings: citizens aren’t entitled to police protection.
Well, ‘to serve & protect’ is only part of the sentence. Left unstated is who they’re serving & protecting.
I think, in context along with the rest of the video, it tends to show a sort of callous indifference. If they were somber and quiet, I’d still think their comments to the dad were bad and ill-advised, but it’s frankly possible I’d be a little more willing to give some benefit of the doubt as to their intentions.
Exhausted from victim blaming all day? Try a crisp refreshing Sprite!
Thank goodness they’re here to teach kids the important lesson that if a grown man asks you for nudes, the real criminal in that situation is you.
Yup. Police exist for punishment and reinforcement of the status quo. They do NOT exist to deter crime and never did. Police PR like Law and Order SVU (and all the other Law and Orders) that portray the police as a bunch of heroes who do nothing but tirelessly work to bring justice to every single victim they come…
This x1000. “To serve and protect” is the biggest bunch of bullshit out there. Police departments have literally gone to court to get rulings that state they have no obligation to do either of those things. So what is their purporse? To reify state power.
I find it telling that they were taking this so seriously that their conversation didn’t center around kicking the call up to the Sexual Assault Unit.
I think a lot of the (understandable) knee jerk opposition people have to calls to defund or abolish the police has to do with the misapprehension that police exist to protect individuals or that they are part of the mechanism for serving justice. Protection and justice are not what the police are for, no matter what…
“Yes officer. I did call you to arrest my eleven year old child. You do have a firm grasp on the situation. Well done. Go enjoy a crisp beverage. You deserve it.” — the answer they expected
I don’t really care if they were talking about soda before the guy answered the door. That said, yeah, it’s awful that the only response the police seemed to have was “what can we charge this child with”. It’s hard to imagine a better way to ensure that the actual perpetrator would never face justice.
“We have investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing.” -Columbus Division of Police
You’re a bad person, and literally everyone around you knows it.
Gotta try harder with your rape apologia. Perhaps Masterson really knows what happened to JFK and the illuminati are out to get him? Or maybe his victims had purchased lipstick on one occasion so they deserved it. Be honest with yourself, there’s no amount of evidence that would ever convince you.
