Nuance? Complexity in a system? You get out of here with that kind of rational thought-only extremist outrage allowed around these parts!

Yeeeeeah, pretty rich for Jezebel et all to be slinging mud at Clinton here for her actions in 2008. Some of us were around during the Hugo Schwyzer days, when it was “known” how much of an asshole he was and a pro-feminist site still let him be associated with them.
Most of them fucking are; I haven’t seen anywhere near this level of rage at the NYTimes (still employing Glenn Thrust), the US Gymnastics association (who turned a blind eye to *dozens* of teenage girls being sexually abused), or any of the left-ist organizations (Young Turks, Chapo House) that have their fair share…
Cool, your place has zero tolerance policies. Not everywhere does; my place doesn’t. Some places have progressive disciplinary action. And no, 2008 wasn’t eons ago, but it certainly isn’t now, where immediate termination is considered the only correct course of action.
And yes, they knew it was a problem, which is why…
Docking his pay, forcing him into counseling, and getting the woman he harassed away from him is not “a little slap on the wrist.” It’s certainly more than the NYTimes is doing to Glenn Thrust; it’s taken*dozens* of complaints for other organizations to bother doing anything. And that’s in this current #MeToo media…
“Potentially” derailed. Not even for sure, just “potentially”, by getting her away from the man harassing her? Can you prove she didn’t get moved to a *better* position, one where she wasn’t also getting harassed?
It’s common HR practice to move the victim and the harasser apart, and given the harasser a warning; it’s…
But, it also seems that she believed the accusations and did take action; she didn’t fire him until a few months later, but she docked him, forced him into counseling and moved the woman to a different position. So even in this case, she acted pretty on par with 2008 standards for handling sexual harassment...
Well... something WAS done. She docked his pay, moved the woman to another position, and forced him to go to counseling. She *believed* the victim and acted accordingly. Should she have fired him? Prooooobably, but this also seems pretty standard for 2008 HR-Department-Harassment behavior. I’ve seen guys who behaved…
I had a lot of interesting discussions with my pastor and my grandfather (retired pastor) about Heaven/Hell, like do dogs get into Heaven if they don’t have souls, do people who lived before Christ just automatically get sent to hell (how freaking unfair.) My grandpa is heavily into theology philosophy, so it’s a lot…
How did they sell the Dreamers out?? By ensuring that come February, they can demand a clean Dreamers bill instead of the ridiculous bipartisan thing they stuck in front of Trump (which he rejected), and Republicans can’t use CHIP as a bargaining tool? By controlling the spin so it’s no longer “kids’ insurance versus…
Right. I got mocked on Twitter because I pointed out that in a poll, 52% of Americans blamed Trump. “See, you neolib, Dems should have held out because Americans would have blamed Republicans!”
.... Except only HALF of Americans blamed the actual person to blow up the bipartisan compromise. That’s how effective the…
I spent the weekend arguing with people on Betty McCollum’s Twitter over exactly that, and heard people mention how “it’s the Dems fault” in passing at the gym. It is shocking how many people 1) don’t realize it was entirely on Republicans that CHIP funding expired and 2) Dems don’t actually freaking control any house…
I’m just getting into knitting, and I’m currently making 3 pairs of these for coworkers: https://www.craftsy.com/knitting/kits/fingerless-mitts-knitting-kit/496472
Sadly, I’ve seen portions of Rose Twitter extremely excited for her; Gleen Greenwald spent all weekend bleating about how “the DNC establishment!!” is trying to “suppress her because they hate trans women!!!” (Whatever happened to, don’t vote via identity politics and you shouldn’t vote for Clinton just because she’s…
To be fair, there are a sizable number of Americans who believe them. I took a glance at the NY Times, Yahoo, and NBC News comment sections, and at least half of them ARE blaming Dems for “protecting filthy illegal immigrants” (don’t even seem to realize CHIP is also part of it.)
I’ve thought about this a lot too when it comes to local BLM marches. If I show up, as a white person, I might potentially draw more media attention (they interview the “nice white lady” instead of the actual hard-working organizer who knows stuff) or unintentionally make it about myself.
“Look at books like The Hunger Games where you have White people rebelling against a rich evil class.”
Only kinda sort on topic frivolous question:
Yeeeeeeeep, I had the exact same response. Interrogating my own privilege and racism has led to some uncomfortable places (and God the poor POC who had to sometimes shove me there, I am sorry and you deserve a lot more than my apologies :-/), but it needs to be done by anyone who thinks to call themselves a feminist…
I think it comes down to: a selfie is about the individual, the march is about the collective. A selfie sets someone *apart* from whatever group they are in, a march unifies them. I think a march is about making yourself part of something bigger, making your individuality subservient to the greater issue; I may not…
