It’s unsettling to watch children’s programming and seeing all the lessons we try to teach them about sharing, cooperation, tolerance, and kindness......and then seeing just how badly we incorporate those lessons into our lives as adults.

Just being a supportive teacher makes a huge difference. Shutting down hostility and violence reminds them that they aren’t alone.

I agree when both sides are showing respect. I disagree if only minorities are expected to show respect, because that’s just deference. In this case people were definitely being jerks for no good reason.

Anyone who doesn’t appreciate you saying this is being short sighted jerk. A lot of hard feelings going around and some people are unfortunately lashing out at allies who are being supportive. If you care and offer your help sincerely the vast majority of us will welcome it.

Some of us have been forced to not get our documents changed due to circumstances outside our control and because it has been all of maybe two years since the risk of public assault has started to look less horrific.

I just hope he won’t give in to them and keep some of his views which are far more progressive than most Republican’s (not saying a lot)

Your mistake is believing the Republican party has considered that viable in the last 36 years. Big capitol spending by rich investors is kind of the corner stone of modern Republicanism, as much as social conservatism is. Eisenhower doesn’t seem likely to rise from the grave anytime soon.

Sorry, but they kicked all the non bigots out of federal office. The party just won on bigotry and winning is what the party cares about. Maybe you should consider being an independent and hoping they become sane enough to deserve your participation again. But they won’t change if sane Republicans stick things out.

This is why I feel no guilt in trying to get out of the country. I’ll see if I can get my documentation in order ASAP but long term I really don’t feel safe here and never have.
