He’s Republican. He thinks you have a right to be born, but that your survival is a privilege.

“No word on what the penalty is if the rule is broken.”
Generally agree but wanted to stop in to say that the preference for lighter skin in Asian countries is a thing that’s been in the culture for hundreds of years- folks aren’t trying to look like white people. It’s still problematic (a lot of inter-ethnic racism re: SE Asians being dark, or w/in India, caste and…
That is the most frustrating thing, the shrugging. The arms race, the “the other schools at our level all charge this much tuition and pay this little to teaching staff, so what can we do?” It’s such bullshit. And the wide-eyed fundraising, the pitch that they really need your donation, when you’re still paying off…
She admits that CPS had been called on her several times before. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
I agree. It’s hard for me to believe that her children would be removed from her for leaving her kids in a dirty apartment for a few hours once a week. There’s got to more to this, because removal over that just seems too extreme for a system that’s spread so thin.
If it is a dumpster fire, it is well deserved. I am a Black woman, 43, not affluent and survived various forms of abuse in childhood. I was raised by a single mother in generally poor, minority neighborhoods. These folks don’t get a pass from me.
No, the comment section correctly called out myopic naval gazing thinkpieces that apologised for child abuse. Jez should be absolutely ashamed for enabling this.
“By my second time in court, I also learned that the judge I had had a reputation for being tough. She expected parents to be accountable for their actions and address the issues that had brought them to her court.”
I understand people are poor parents for a reason, but if you neglect or abuse a child, it doesn’t really matter. The social welfare system does not always work, is badly funded/ badly governed, etc.. but not because children are taken away needlessly from good parents.
I’m calling it now. This comments section is going to be a disaster. Last time Jezebel ran this series, the commentariat was overwhelmingly unsympathetic to the mothers, who they saw as violent and/or manipulative. We’ll see if things go differently this time, but I almost felt that the last round of essays had a…
You know what? I’m perfectly fine with the fact that people who have been convicted of neglect can’t get jobs caring for children and the elderly.
Right? I appreciate my parents’ generosity very much but I’m annoyed 24/7 and I am DONE with the petty bullshit and the way that their house is never, ever quiet. Just the worst.
I can’t afford to live anywhere other than with my parents and I have student loans for days - seeing gross displays of wealth like this makes me want to die*.
Society allows white men to make mistakes. Women and POC not so much. It was never about her emails. Just like how people aren’t really mad at the kneeling for the national anthem. They’re mad that black men are being uppity.
No one with three kids, a dog, AND a pristine white couch is relatable in my book. Kids and dog, sure. A white couch. With kids and dog? Nope. I’m out. Don’t buy it.
Correction: “twot” (American) means ladyparts. “twaat” (British) means stupid person. The meaning changes with the pronunciation. A twaat can have a twot. snerk.
Besides the obvious, low-hanging fruit of physical appearance: because Igloo never did The Pivot. She started out as a shitty white rapper and has faded into irrelevance as a shitty white rapper. Miley started out the wholesome little Disney girl, went through her “phase”, had her come-to-white-Jesus moment, and now…
Eh. She’s less obnoxious overall because at least she’s not faking anything. Also because she’s a kid and people were just trying to use her for a laugh.
....she’s only 14?
