The more things change the more things stay the same.
They didn’t let you tool around COTA so you could really open it up? Regardless, I’m still super jealous.
Stewards handed O’Connell a 2.1 second penalty? Is there a reason for such an odd time penalty? Maybe they determined he deserved to finish 5th instead of first and tailored a time penalty to get that result? That’s a pretty strange practice if so.
Very, very cool. I also assumed someone somewhere must do things like this, but knew nothing about it.
Too soon.
And you posted the full-res photos! Thank you for that.
Some of these pics look like pictures I took of my car when it was new.
I personally think that open cockpits adds to the human aspect of the sport. As an observer, I appreciate being able to see the driver as he (or she) drives past displaying amazing skill at ridiculous speeds. I can clearly see the driver’s head be subjected to gee forces when out-braking a teammate into the hairpin, I…
I would’ve expected Kimi to be the one doing this as much as he yells about blue flags these days.
NASCAR has been having this problem for years. Not nearly as many people go to the races as they used to and now there are a ton of empty seats. Even for the Cup races I see many empty seats and frequently see tarps covering whole sections.

They limped the car around at a somewhat slow pace and stopped for a few minutes just past the finish line with one lap to go. At least to my understanding, if they had stopped the car just before the finish…
Williams has been on top of their game all year. They have had the fastest pit stop at every single one of the 8 Grands Prix held this year. At this race alone, 3 of the 4 fastest pit stops were done by Williams.
And why were the on screen graphics still in a 4:3 format?? It’s been over 10 years since HDTV became the norm. Get your act together ABC and use all the screen rather than smashing everything into the center.
Next year, do Monaco!!
It’s nice to see a catch fence put the truck back onto the track without, you know, shredding it to bits and endangering anybody that happens to be on the safe side of said fence. Or the driver.
Thank you for finding hi-res photos to post. I am noticing that the tablet-friendly trend of website design is making it increasingly hard to find full-screen resolution photos, even of things such as newly revealed F1 cars.
Red Bull Air Races. Great technology. Great control. Insanely small margin of error.
