I LOVED the auto mode. So useful on those days when you have ice patches but mostly dry pavement.

If you follow the chassis codes along though, you’ll see that when the R50 Pathfinder came out, that was actually a new model entirely. The Xterra was actually the Pathfinder replacement... that’s my theory anyway, but it seems to work. The awesome body-on-frame Pathfinder (WD21) of the eighties and early nineties…

True, but the QX4 wasn’t just a rebadged Pathfinder... The Terrano was the Pathfinder, and sold alongside of it in Japan was the Terrano Regulus, which the QX4 is based on. So it wasn’t TOTALLY disingenuous. ;)

I had a 99.5 in silver, just like the pic. It was excellent. Super slow, got a best of 15 mpg highway, but I loved it. Got it in 2006. The later VQ models would be cool, but man I loved the look of the early generation front end.
