The F-22/F-15/Super Hornet air superiority. The F-35 was never meant to replace it. The F-35 replaces the F-16, old F/A-18s (not the super hornets), and the harrier.

The f-35 is cheaper and is much better at ground attack and EW than the F-22. The F-22 is air superiorty. The F-35 is a stealth bomb truck. That’s it’s job. To replace other stealth bomb trucks. a) a lower RCS will always have an advantage over a jet with a higher RCS. Stealth isn’t an off and on switch.

When is the last time an F-16 used it’s cannons in CAS operations? Most CAS is being left to drones and jets over 10k feet in order to avoid manpads these days.

They could be pushed into service next week if there was a reason too, otherwise they will continue to go through the normal evaluation process. The “bugs” at this point are fairly minor and not even that big of a problem as previous projects.

Like I said, an F-35 carries more payload, and has a larger range than an F-16. These are facts you can’t spin, as much as you would like to.

Yeah, stealth isn’t overrated. Modern air combat is all about who can detect the other guy first and fire off their missiles. Whoever wins that battle, controls the airspace. Pretending that an F-16 is going to be better at that than an F-35 is being disingenuous.

Why would it be sitting in the hanger? The F-35 isn’t delayed any longer than the 787 or any other major engineering project is. Within 5 years it will be 100 percent certified.

I’d rather have 1 F-35 that is able to detect and destroy the F-16s before they could ever see the F-35.

There’s 150 F-35s delivered. Cancelling it at this point would be more of a waste than finishing the project.

Not really. Horrible reliability, huge RCS, poor avionics, poor range without drop tanks. It’s a real piece of shit to be quite honest. There is a reason no one is buying the SU-35 and why India is done buying Russian jets.
