I’m not saying that at all, the problem is that you read what you want to read, which renders writing anything further quite pointless. I admit, a part of me wants to try and correct the things you spout, but the time vs. reward in educating some random kid in the kotaku comments section leaves much to be desired.

I’m not even going to touch the gems in that comment. It’s more that I don’t feel like writing an essay to explain every minute detail to the degree where you’d come to understand it.

Everything I say you take so literally it’s quite impossible to have a conversation with you about this. I mean seriously, of course you look at other things on the screen, of course you don’t make money by spending it all, not talking about the mod community...

It’s not quite the same, in this instance the background is the only thing to change in quality and your eye is trained on the unchanging character models. Then the change is only in quality and not resolution.

You have to remember, this is an old game, it’s not like there’s a seamless walk from one background to another. There’s a scene change to every new background image, so I think you’re exaggerating in your mind how ‘jarring’ it would actually be.

I say this to make the point that Square-Enix shouldn’t have financial constraints because it would mostly be intern-like work to resize and layer a few hundred images, and they would have no problem finding someone willing.

Jake’s work was only ‘found’ because he has a convenient online portfolio. Other work may not necessarily be lost.

“That’s a level of failure far beyond anything Nintendo would let happen...”

I’m aware they were terrible at archiving but any sane artist who worked on a high profile game like this would keep all their own work archived for portfolios. Surely Jake Rowell isn’t the only one.

I agree, you are being ridiculous. I didn’t say redo anything. They clearly have access to a good chunk of high quality art, so they should use it where they can and upscale the rest. Pretty minor task for one of the flagship games of your company.

If this guy on can scrounge up that many good quality images square enix themselves should have even better odds at getting these assets. And I wholeheartedly disagree, I would rather they used all the best available graphics, and anything they’ve lost can just be scaled/filtered as best they can.

Check this thread out, then come back and tell me they couldn’t have done a way better job with those backgrounds...

I don’t know about ‘a lot of time’ ...the Photoshop job (especially the dark background ones) is pretty poor... which is a shame considering the quality of the cosplay.

I would like to know what third-world public toilet you can see someone standing in without them being 7 feet tall?
In this toilet of nightmares do people walking in casually stare down at those in the stalls?? or is there an unspoken avoid eye contact rule?

That ‘go back to the kitchen’ comment would not fly at all in any workplace I have been in. Is this sort of behavior more prevalent in America than elsewhere in the world do you think?

...becoming someone else, something else...

I am not from the US, so on domestic US flights I get a limited number of seats available to me in the economy section - usually towards the back of the plane. But one time my connecting flight was late in, so when I finally arrived at the gate I was the only one not boarded yet. Clearly they must have given my seat

Now playing

The waiting one is good to read and realise it’s true! Also in the spirit of this article I am reminded of this:

I just saw this as her stopping time during the storm, not a new kinetic power...
