Depends on what they are lied to about. In this case if they got the MPG that was advertised, most except the ardent tree huggers are going to be fine with the extra NOx from the tail pipes

Here is my winter beater/ HPDE track car with that has seen 2 Michigan winter and 6 trackdays and held up just perfectly great and has been loads of fun ! Salt you say ? Just clean the damn thing, underbody included twice a week with a unlimited car wash pass and she will be set !

I think the point that tavarish is trying to make is that despite the regular religious maintenance, the car has to be driven to keep it healthy ! And as a engineer in the automotive industry, I agree 100% especially the powertrain related stuff, lubrication and cooling system.

Fools paying payment & depreciation ? YES and that is pricely why I jump on anything less than 2% financing ! I dont want to “INVEST” full with my hard earned money like a sucker on a car that is going to be decpreciating when I can get a better return on it elsewhere !

I know it might sound like not a lot but the 10 hour dual Vanos rebuild on my 01 BMW actually thought me that these cars are not that hard to work on if you have some patience and decent tool kit ! Bonus was the car pulls much better at lower RPM even after 201k miles

The emergency becon is sort of already there in a few cars where the “onstar” kinda system notifies the authorities if a airbag goes off in a accident

I can assure you as a engineer, almost all of these ideas have been thought about and shelved becuase of cost vs the benefit you get from it right now !

Lot of the military electronics do look old school compared to the stuff you and me have in our cell phones. All the snazzy micro processors can afford to fail and reboot in our cell phones unlike for military purposes

This ! If you cant actually operate a vehicle safely while on hands-free or talking to a passenger then you have no business driving a motor vehicle. I think we need to include driving while talking to someone as part of the DL test like how recovering from a spin is a DL test in some Scandinavian countries

Good point ! Mileage on German cars from back in the day are really irrelevant. There is a reason some of the old Mercedes are being beaten to death in Africa with close to a million miles on the odo !

Beg to differ ! German designed in the 90s go well beyond 200k+ without much trouble. With German cars it usually the electronics which shit on you and thankfully back in the day they had less of those compared to now. The number of computers and sensors on new german cars are insane !

E46 BMW owner with 200k+ miles with the last 30k in Michigan winter + 6 track days. She actually runs better than other lower mile ( 150ishk) E46s owned by my buddies with the main reason being I bought mine with a stack of receipts of some preventive maintenance and I have done my best to keep an eye on symptoms…
