I think (one of) the biggest reasons for us liking these movies is simply curiosity. What if the world would end.

More obviously wrong with those dual guns, is that no black ops specialist would EVER use two handguns simultaneously. It just makes no sense whatsoever. It's inaccurate and cumbersome when reloading. Plus it's not at all standard procedure to pack two handguns on a mission.
