You know that iPhone 3 you can no longer use because it can't be updated anymore?
With how heavily regulated F1 is, it might as well be a spec series. When it was last a true open champsionship was before they banned 6 wheelers, etc.
"Unlike manufacturer-owned teams, our core business is Formula One."
Great write up! It's a shame to see F1 follow DTM, LeMans, and so many other race leagues by letting runaway spending on technology push out all constructors except big carmakers. It kills the soul of the sport.
A spec series is not F1. If they did that they'd lose the constructor aspect that makes F1 unique, and as mentioned in the article even the small teams don't want to become customers.
The only ways to really curb costs are to either have a price cap, some complicated resource cap, or turn it into a spec series.
F1 will die if Bernie isnt kicked to the curb and the FIA isnt completely reformed. Continual technical regulations to control the financials simply isnt going to work. Financial regulations for financial issues. F1 is going to be more of a spec class than Indycar soon.. eck.
