That’s true - you don’t get the deli and the baked goods are not fresh. In a 24-hour store though, they tend to stock in the middle of the night because it’s easy to do without getting in customers’ way. It depends on the time, but in my experience the shelves are nearly fully stocked by about 3:30 or 4 am.

About shopping at the wrong time of day: if you live in a place with a 24-hour grocery and you have a schedule that permits it (like shift work), try shopping in the middle of the night. It is the absolute bar-none best time to be in the store.
