My rule of thumb is to make sure I drink some water after each time my body calls for a void (whether it be food poison or flu.) A friend of mine died from the dehydration caused by a flu so a bunch of us having been much more careful since.

You summarized a lot of my reasons well. In my rush to get first post I decided to leave out the details. It’s not a perfect or great language but it is accessible and pervasive.
