It could have been worse. When I was applying to college, I got a post card in the mail from Brown that said: "We'd love you to be a part of our 300+ Brown Community at Brown" with a picture of a lot of young Latinos on it. I'm going to assume they've gotten better about that?

*manspreading all over the comments section* you know, because people need room for the metaphorical, internet balls.

But you also got excited when JNCOs came back. You kind of wish the late 90s never ended, so it's just a charming personality quirk, rather than a "Cornell - Lolita was written here, you dolts" thing.

Being pre-judged is the worst feeling in the world. Random anecdote: I grew up in a majority-minority suburb of a minority majority city. I worked my butt off to go to a fancy, super selective college. Crazy SAT scores, crazy AP scores, mathematically improbable GPA. The first thing crazy selective college did?

Which is when people tend to be zealots about stuff. I reserve my ire for people in their 40s-60s who believe that they're the only ones who know what "progressive" means, refuse to pay their nanny/housekeeper a living wage, usually exploit their employees, and say/do racially insensitive and misogynistic things, but

But somehow less smug.

A friend of mine (a dean at one of the Ivies) crowd sourced some of her advice for her incoming freshman/outgoing seniors. Here was mine:

The book had an unfortunate 30 page digression dealing with the death of Kurt Cobain and some petty vandalism that aged very, very poorly.

Oh lord. A friend works in real estate out here and was showing north of million dollar houses in a micro-lot development. There was a decidedly large contingent of parents shopping for houses with their 25 year-olds. These kids all had job titles like "DJ" and "Actor."

That's more Nikki Finke. God, I miss that crazy shut in.

Jai Courtney: everyone else was busy.

I may have watched most of this show in one sitting. Sharon Horgan is just so good in everything. I *almost* wish the American version of pulling made it to air.

ooooh, it's so much fun. And an eerily prescient depiction of the Los Angeles' current urban hellscape.

You leave the door open for them to come back, but you give them their space. It's hard - rejection is always hard - but forcing the issue of intimacy and friendship when it's clearly not wanted is not a nice thing to do to someone either. If you have friends in common, you can inquire (knowing full well you might

Crispin Mills was kind of cute!

I kept on expecting the two leads to make out. Which would have made this far more interesting.

Self avowed feminist lady here. Most of the women I agree with on basic principles drive me absolutely insane when we discuss the nitty gritty of why and how. There's no room for nuance, no room for differing opinions. Just shouting.

Also, love the fact that Syndrome's character design is based on Brad Bird.

That pretty much describes every boss I've ever had. So…yeah?
