It's stereotypical for a reason — a lot of Japanese speakers do sound that way. I have heard a lot of them. And to my ears, Kikuchi sounded fine. I can usually tell when an Asian-American native English speaker is trying to fake a stereotypical accent, and that wasn't the case here as far as I can tell.
