Companies will set prices to maximize profits — that’s just how the world works.

+1

I think the non-aerodynmic shape really kills this vehicle’s mpg. It’s the same for the Corolla (41mpg hwy) vs. Corolla Cross (33mpg hwy).

Ouch - yearly registration is $1600 on this car, or was that fee related to the purchase?

Didn’t read to the end, did you?

(which are, BTW, MUCH heavier than their counterpart ICE models and thus likely to MORE damage do the road)

FYI BMW M3, where I would expect that low weight was actually a minor priority, is 4000lbs.  Cars are heavy, not just batteries.

I hope you’re wanting the $35K R8, and not a $200K A4! 😁

  • I wonder if we might see a higher performance (turbo?) GR86 once the Supra is cancelled in a year or so.

If the auto industry can find some other profitable vehicle type (like EV’s) and push them as the next “stylish / safe / desirable / etc” thing, then people will drop traditional CUVs and SUVs quickly. These vehicles are already the uncool thing your mom drove to grade school dropoff, so now it just takes $Billions in

Why would you ever compare low-production-volume sports cars to ultra-high-production-volume CUV’s?!?? Should an Audi R8 cost less than an Audi A4 because it is smaller?

If the car is mechanically sound *and* mods are reversable, I’d say the price is fair. This is definitely a case where the mods are lowering the price of the car, as I’d expect this to be worth $3-4K more if it was clean and original condition.

You’d probably also spend $2-3k getting that used OEM hood painted to match the car. Probably not worth the effort/price.

Yeah this car isn’t ugly, it’s just ultra generic. Take of the bright yellow badge and it could be a Toyota (especially with that two-tone black/red paint) or a random Chinese brand that we don’t pay attention to in North America.

Obligatory XKCD

forester wheelbase is 105", Y is almost 114.

Wow I’m starting to sound like a Tesla salesman here — I intentionally bought a Bolt instead of a Model 3 a few years ago, but...

The Legacy is not a CUV, and has about 6 inches less wheelbase. Try comparing to the Subaru Ascent, $34K. The Y is more comparable with a higher trim Ascent that is about $41K.

I know you’re just trolling, but ignoring the EV drivetrain, can you get a remotely similar sized 4WD vehicle for $30K?   Not even close.

I was pointing out that Japanese manufacturers *barely* build EVs, except for Nissan. You cannot buy a Honda EV, Toyota phoned in a crap design with their BusyForks, Nissan gave up a huge head start, and Mazda just makes a compliance car.
