I don’t agree with your point that the manufacturers are alienating early adopters. That is non-sensical as new games will be backwards compatable with the old gen. But for those early adopters who want to, they can buy the new gen as well. Choices for consumers are good.

How is this different from the last 30 years of console gaming? Traditionally there have been new versions of machines rolled out every 5 years or so. The last gen grew way too long in the tooth before the current gen came out but there have always been new iterations.
